Tipsy Seagull is the third British Hunter Mystery 35, launched in 2004 and designed by Stephen Jones, an acclaimed yacht designer who has penned a long list of classic yachts.
She is ready to sail and cruise, upgraded since 2015 with a significant investment of new equipment, rigging and sails, and fitted out for serious cruising by a very meticulous owner who has sadly not been able to overcome sea sickness on longer legs, so now prefers to downsize to a day sailer. Hence the major change of plans, and very regrettable sale.
She has never been raced or chartered, is hugely updated, and as well equipped as any Mystery 35 for sale – no expense has been spared. From a recent comprehensive re-rig, new full-batten mainsail and cruising chute, heating, AIS, solar power, safety equipment, to everything needed in the galley, this is a yacht that is unlikely to need another penny spent on her inventory for many years to come.
This Mystery 35 for sale has been cruised extensively, from the Baltic to Greece, and from the UK’s west country to Ireland and Scotland’s stunning west coast. She has never been raced, and is well setup for single or short handed sailing. The current owner regularly sails single handed.
The current owner will be pleased to help familiarise the new owner(s) with the yacht in the new season, for as long as is needed.
Tipsy Seagull is currently ashore in Portsmouth harbour and scheduled to re-launch March 2018.
The Mystery 35
Describing the Mystery 35, Sail Magazine summarise…
A traditional, hand-built fast cruiser that hails from an era when seaworthiness, handling and ride comfort were more important than interior volume and cockpit space.
The design brief given to renowned designer Stephen Jones was to create a boat that had the looks of a classic, the performance of a racer and adequate accommodations to enable her to be cruised extensively. Jones has succeeded admirably in all three areas.
Essentially, any Mystery 35 for sale excels at fast passage making in all weathers or being sailed like a dinghy in coastal waters, but with first class home comforts at the end of the day. The combination of a deep lead keel (nearly half the boat’s weight is in the lead keel), powerful rig and tiller steering make for stable, fast and dry sailing, effortless VMG, and a lot of fun on the water.

The images of this Mystery 35 for sale were taken between 2015 and 2017. Earlier images omit the solar panels which were added in 2017. Note that the current owner prefers the additional space and access from not having a saloon table fitted, but the table is included in the sale and can be easily refitted. The interior image showing the saloon table dates from around 2013. Click on any thumbnail for a slideshow.
